Maria is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, receiving her Masters in Social Work from the University of Chicago. Maria also has a Masters in Educational Administration from Northern Illinois, and a Bachelors of Liberal Arts and Sciences from the University of Chicago. Maria has been working with adolescents and their families for over 25 years in the school and private practice and community service settings. Maria learned about Mindfulness through a professional development workshop and pursued training in Mindfulness from Dr. Amy Saltzman, the author of A Still Quiet Place, about 3 years ago.
Maria generally uses a cognitive/behavioral approach and has found that Mindfulness is an excellent complement to this work in both group and individual settings, helping people with anxiety, depression and PTSD, to name a few. In Maria’s professional experiences she has found that Mindfulness is easily accessible to anyone and that the practice is extremely flexible to meet everyone’s interest and ability.
Maria meditates daily with long distance running, yoga, kayaking, and gardening or just about anything in nature. Maria is always looking forward to summer road trips out West with her family when they turn in their electronic devices for hiking boots and conversation.
