Center For Emotional Wellness Depression Therapy
You might be noticing changes in mood, energy, or the way someone is showing up in daily life at school, at work, or at home. Depression doesn’t look the same for everyone. In children, it can show up as irritability, withdrawal, or sudden changes in behavior. Teens may pull away from friends, struggle in school, or seem more overwhelmed than usual. Adults often describe feeling exhausted, unmotivated, or just “not like themselves,” even when nothing on the surface explains it.
Offering Depression Therapy in Arlington Heights, Illinois, Crystal Lake, Illinois + Via Telehealth
Everyday life can start to feel heavier than it should. Things that used to feel normal – keeping up with responsibilities, staying connected to others, or enjoying hobbies – can begin to feel difficult or out of reach. Some people isolate more without meaning to, while others feel stuck in a cycle of stress, sadness, or frustration that doesn’t seem to lift.
The important thing to know is that depression is treatable at any age. With the right support, it becomes easier to understand what’s going on internally, recognize patterns and triggers, and build healthier ways of coping. Over time, treatment can help improve mood, restore motivation, and make it feel easier to reconnect with daily life and the people around you.

CHILD THERAPY
The teenage years bring rapid physical, emotional, and social changes that can feel overwhelming for both teens and their families. Trying to navigate it all alone can be incredibly challenging.
Counseling offers a safe, supportive, and neutral space where teens can talk openly about what they’re experiencing without fear of judgment. With compassionate guidance, they can better understand their emotions, build resilience, and develop healthy coping skills that support them not only now, but well into adulthood.
For parents, counseling can also help strengthen communication and rebuild connection—so you and your teen can move through these years with more understanding, trust, and ease.
TEEN THERAPY
Children today are growing up in a world full of new and sometimes overwhelming challenges. From school stress to social pressures, these experiences can affect a child’s happiness and emotional well-being. Every child is unique, and for neurodivergent children — including those with ADHD, autism, or learning differences — these challenges can feel even more complex. It’s completely normal for kids to struggle at times, and those feelings may show up as worry, frustration, or changes in behavior. As a parent, you want to support your child in the best way possible, but it’s not always clear what steps to take.
Our team will collaborate with your child’s pediatrician, school team, and any other providers to ensure comprehensive care. We can attend 504 and IEP meetings and advocate for appropriate services for your child. We also provide tools and programming to help you create home plans that support your child’s growth, including building confidence, emotional regulation, and communication skills.
YOUNG ADULT THERAPY
The transition into young adulthood comes with new pressures — school, work, relationships, and the challenge of figuring out who you are and where you’re headed. It’s common to feel uncertain, stressed, or stuck during this stage of life, even when you’re doing your best to move forward.
Individual counseling provides a safe, confidential space to talk through what you’re experiencing with a licensed therapist who understands this stage of life. Together, you can build healthy coping skills, strengthen emotional resilience, and gain the insight needed to make decisions that feel right for you.
ADULT THERAPY

GROUP THERAPY
Group Therapy offers an opportunity for clients to engage in a safe and nurturing environment that encourages collaborative feedback from their peers. In this form of therapy, clients that share common challenges in their everyday lives can help to support one another’s growth within a therapeutic environment by mirroring each others journeys and sharing constructive tips toward self care. Group therapy can help clients to adapt to various social and emotional challenges in every day life such as managing personal triggers regarding addiction, anger, grief, and loss.
Group Therapy is built to aid clients in their development of conflict resolution, effective communication styles, and awareness of the self within group dynamics; it helps individuals to build meaningful therapeutic connections that often serve as examples for healthy choice making, relationship building, and emotional regulation.
The Center offers Dialectical Behavioral Therapy Groups, Child and Adolescent Social Skills Groups, Skills Groups, Art and Anxiety Groups.
INDIVIDUAL THERAPY
Individual Therapy consists of a one on one meeting between a client and a therapist. Sessions last approximately 55 minutes. During this time the client and therapist work toward achieving mutually agreed upon goals. Clients are often encouraged to learn new ideas that bring about increased self-awareness and internal resiliency. Individual therapy is a collaborative effort between the client’s experience and the therapist’s approach; it takes time to develop, and may evolve as the client’s needs arise.
At times the therapist and client may choose to include other family members in the sessions, such as a spouse or parent. Sessions typically occur weekly at the start of therapy; as problems decrease the therapy may be spread out.

ADHD & EXECUTIVE FUNCTIONING COUNSELING
We provide evidence-based intervention for individuals presenting with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and related executive functioning deficits. Treatment focuses on strengthening core domains such as working memory, cognitive flexibility, inhibitory control, planning, organization, and time management. Interventions may include cognitive-behavioral strategies, skills training, and environmental modifications to improve task initiation, sustained attention, and goal-directed behavior. Care is individualized to support functional outcomes across academic, occupational, and daily living settings.
ANXIETY THERAPY
We offer specialized, evidence-based treatment for Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and anxiety-related conditions. Treatment is grounded in cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), with a strong emphasis on Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), the gold-standard intervention for OCD and a highly effective approach for many anxiety disorders.
ERP involves the systematic and supported exposure to feared thoughts, situations, or internal experiences while reducing reliance on avoidance and compulsive behaviors. This process helps clients build tolerance to distress, decrease symptom severity, and disrupt maladaptive fear-based learning patterns.
Interventions also target cognitive distortions, behavioral avoidance, and physiological arousal, with the goal of improving overall functioning and quality of life. Clients are supported in increasing psychological flexibility, strengthening adaptive coping strategies, and re-engaging in valued activities that may have been limited by anxiety or obsessive-compulsive symptoms.
AUTISM THERAPY
While there is no known cure for Autism, there are treatment and education approaches that can address some of the challenges associated with this condition. Intervention can help to lessen disruptive behaviors, and education can teach self-help skills for greater independence. Treatment will focus on utilizing the individual’s unique strengths to increase self-awareness, as well as improve maladaptive coping and cognitive strategies. Our treatment will also utilize behavioral modification strategies, parent training and family counseling in order to assist in increasing structure in the home, and implementing parenting strategies that can promote healthier communication with your child, as well as work towards increasing emotional maturity and better decision making skills in your child.
COGNITIVE BEHAVIORAL THERAPY
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a well researched and effective form of therapy that is based on the idea that what you think and do affects the way you feel. By working collaboratively with the therapist, clients explore current challenges in their life and work toward developing more effective ways
of coping and changing their thinking,
emotions, and behavior.
COLLEGE & CAREER THERAPY
Navigating college and career decisions can feel stressful, confusing, and overwhelming, especially when facing pressure about the future or uncertainty about the right path. Our College and Career Counseling services help clients explore strengths, interests, values, and long-term goals while building confidence in decision-making. Using evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to address self-doubt and limiting beliefs, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills to manage stress and improve emotional balance, and practical goal-setting strategies, we support clients in creating a clear and meaningful direction. We also encourage experiences outside of the treatment center such as campus visits, career exploration, volunteer work, networking, and real-world skill building to help clients gain confidence and momentum toward their future.
DEPRESSION THERAPY
Feelings of sadness, loneliness, loss or even despair are part of the human experience. However, whether due to chemical imbalance, loss of a loved one, changes in life or maladaptive thought patterns, sometimes these periods of feeling down persist and may even intensify. Disruptions in sleep, appetite, loss of pleasure or interest in activities, increased isolation, and possibly even suicidal thoughts are symptoms that are common when someone is struggling with depression. Treatment will be individualized to each client’s unique needs but may include cognitive restructuring, identification of distorted thought patterns that negatively impact mood and motivation, thought reframing and development of healthy coping strategies in a safe, nurturing and supportive setting. This may occur in individual or group therapy sessions. Referrals for medication management may also be made as appropriate.
DOMESTIC VIOLENCE THERAPY

Our domestic violence counseling services provide a safe, confidential, and supportive space where you can talk openly about your experiences without judgment. EATING DISORDERS THERAPY
Eating disorders are very complex diseases that can have severe physical and emotional consequences if left untreated. For this reason, it is imperative that men or women dealing with eating disorders seek professional help. Our treatment will utilize Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to work towards a healthier relationship with food, as well as improved self-image and a healthier life style. Treatment will focus on managing the psychological aspects associated with the eating disorder, as well as medical monitoring by a physician and regular consultations with a nutritionist as appropriate.
EMDR THERAPY
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a therapeutic approach that helps clients heal from emotional distress. During the stage of sleep characterized by rapid eye movement or REM sleep, the mind naturally processes many things that occur during the day. EMDR is a technique that integrates the natural healing that takes place during sleep to help a client self-heal and process past traumas, experiences, or events. EMDR is an effective therapy that can help clients live more fully in the present.
EXPOSURE RESPONSE PREVENTION THERAPY
The mostly widely practiced behavioral therapy for anxiety is called exposure and response prevention (ERP). Initially, patients are asked to make a list of situations that provoke anxiety.
Treatment asks patients to participate in exposure to situations that cause mild to moderate anxiety, and as the patient habituates to these situations, he or she gradually works up to situations that cause greater anxiety. The time it takes to progress in treatment depends on the patient’s ability to tolerate anxiety and to resist compulsive behaviors.
Exposure tasks are usually first performed with the therapist assisting. These sessions generally take between 45 minutes and three hours. Patients are also asked to practice exposure tasks between sessions for two to three hours per day.
To mark progress during exposure tasks with the therapist and in homework, patients are trained to be experts in rating their own anxiety levels. Once they have made progress in treatment, participants are encouraged to continue using the ERP techniques they have learned, and to apply them to new situations as they arise
GRIEF & LOSS THERAPY
Everyone experiences grief and feelings of loss in their own time and in their own way. The grieving process often involves difficult and complicated emotions. Therapy can help sort out feelings of loss, explore feelings and memories without judgment and create a support system to begin the healing process. Our therapists will create a safe space for you to work through feelings of sadness and develop skills to allow you to lead to overall emotional health. Our therapists work with people of all ages, and will help you recognize if your grief and loss has led to other complications, such as feelings of depression, anxiety, and/or PTSD.
LIFE TRANSITION THERAPY
During the course of life, we may face periods of uncertainty or transition. Our therapists help individuals manage emotionally taxing life changes using healthy coping skills, while setting goals to improve overall emotional health. Some of these transitions may include going away to college, facing job loss or beginning a new job, a new relationship or the ending of a relationship for example. No matter what transition you may be facing, our trusted team of clinicians are here to help.
LGBTQIA+ AFFIRMING THERAPY
Our therapists take an approach with LGBTQIA+ identifying clients that is affirming and strength based. Our approach is integrative and together we customize exercises that will nurture a variety of life circumstances. During the process we will help you reprocess old messages, through a cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) approach to explore thought patterns, unhelpful thinking, and cognitive distortions. These thought patterns can have a direct impact on our emotions, feelings, and actions, therefore we can re-frame them and start to re-process them. Oftentimes, we find clients have consistent messaging around, “I should, “I must”, or “I can’t” and these can be what are defined as “shaming” messages. We work to remove shame and build new confidence. Our goal is to support you in building confidence by learning who you are. Our team will work with you to learn to respect yourself by having healthy boundaries in your life and accepting yourself without judgment.

OCD THERAPY
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) involves unwanted thoughts, fears, or mental images that create distress, often followed by behaviors or mental rituals meant to reduce anxiety. These patterns can feel confusing, time-consuming, and difficult to break without specialized support. Our OCD treatment incorporates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP)—the gold standard treatment for OCD—and DBT skills to help manage distress, uncertainty, and emotional intensity during recovery. We also invite therapeutic experiences outside of the treatment center, allowing clients to practice resisting compulsions, face triggers in real-world environments, and build lasting confidence in everyday life.
PAIN MANAGEMENT THERAPY
Psychological approaches to pain are an important and accepted part of the holistic pain management model. Treatment will utilize mindfulness strategies and Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) techniques in order to assist the client to learn relaxation techniques that may assist in their management of pain. Expressive therapy may also be incorporated offering art therapy and relaxation movement therapy as part of the treatment. Prolonged pain can also lead to feelings of anxiety and/or depression, such that the client will be regularly monitored and treated for these symptoms when necessary.

SCHOOL REFUSAL THERAPY
School anxiety, avoidance, and refusal have become all too common in our classrooms today. During the course of their development, many children and adolescents experience school-related anxiety in various ways. For some, school anxiety will manifest into school avoidance, which may impact attendance, academic performance, social interactions, family relationships, and physical health. Without proper intervention, these problems can have a profound effect on both the family and a student’s success. Our treatment approach includes working with the parents, the school system, and other necessary resources to meet each family’s unique needs.
SELF INJURY THERAPY
Self-injury involves a person hurting themselves as a way to express their emotional pain, manage emotional pain, and/or cope with their problems. Treatment will focus on a strength based approach, utilizing Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and behavioral modification approaches to assist the client in exploring more positive ways of coping with emotional pain. The client will work to learn better self-regulation strategies, a greater understanding of their behavioral responses to situations, as well as how their self-harm impacts not only themselves, but those around them. Treatment may also involve parent training and family counseling to assist in increasing structure in the home and implement strategies that can promote healthier communication, as well as increasing better emotional management.
SPORTS PERFORMANCE THERAPY
Our sports performance services focus on the psychological factors that influence athletic functioning and competitive outcomes. We work with athletes across levels to enhance mental skills critical to performance, including attentional control, emotional regulation, confidence, motivation, and resilience under pressure.
Interventions are informed by principles from sport and performance psychology and may incorporate cognitive-behavioral techniques, mindfulness-based strategies, imagery and visualization, arousal regulation, and performance routines. Treatment may address performance anxiety, attentional disruptions, fear of failure, injury recovery, burnout, and inconsistencies in performance.
A key component of this work involves developing individualized mental conditioning plans that align with the athlete’s sport-specific demands and competitive context. We also focus on improving self-regulation before, during, and after competition, as well as strengthening coping strategies for setbacks and high-pressure situations. When appropriate, collaboration with coaches, trainers, and other providers is integrated to support a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to performance optimization.
TRAUMA & PTSD THERAPY
Most people will experience trauma in their lifetime, whether it is from an actual or a perceived event. Some examples may include a car accident, childhood abuse or neglect, the sudden loss of a loved one, violence, or a natural disaster. Witnessing trauma or repeated exposure to other people’s trauma can also significantly impact us.
Following a traumatic experience, it is normal to experience feelings of sadness, anxiety or disconnection, as our body and mind are trying to heal.
Through a compassionate approach, your therapist will provide a safe and caring environment, to allow you to gain skills to work through feelings and thoughts, as well as begin the process of healing. Therapies such as EMDR, CBT and DBT will be used to assist in the process.
